Un peu de Botanique

Étymologie : du latin "betula".
Origine : Europe du Nord. Le Bouleau couvre 1% de la forêt française.
Espèces : il existe des espèces de bouleau américaines et chinoises. En tout 40 espèces.
Habitat : le bouleau est une espèce pionnière (comme l'Aulne) car il accepte des sols pauvres, mais humides et ensoleillés (espèce de pleine lumière). Le bouleau absorbe et évapore beaucoup d'eau. Il ne supporte pas les territoires trop secs. On ne rencontre pas dans le Midi de la France. Le Bouleau pubescent est plus nordique que le Bouleau verruqueux ; on le rencontre jusqu'en Sibérie et au Groenland. Il demande aussi plus d'humidité.
Durée de vie : 100 ans. En tant qu'espèce pionnière, le bouleau ne vit pas vieux.
Ecorce: blanche, lisse, luisante, marquée de lignes horizontales. Le bas du tronc, et en remontant pour des sujets âgés, est crevassé. Le Bouleau pubescent présente des taches roses.
Fleurs : Les fleurs du Bouleau sont des chatons. Les chatons mâles sont situés en bout de rameau de manière à disperser au mieux leur pollen. On les trouve sur l'arbre dès l'automne. Lorsqu'ils arrivent à maturité, juste après le débourrement, en mars, ils sont pendants et peuvent mesurer jusqu'à 10 cm de long. Les fleurs femelles sont aussi des chatons, mais plus petits (3 cm) et ils sont dressés.
Fruit : petite graine ailée (entourée de deux ailes) qui se détache du chaton femelle et est emportée par le vent.

Une fois le tout trié en soufflant dessus il ne restera que notre flocage tant mérité:	Si l'arbre est trop grand, il vous faudra attendre l'automne afin de pouvoir récolter les feuilles au pied de celui-ci. Une bonne astuce que j'ai déjà testé est d'étendre un bâche en plastique tout autour de son tronc, vous pouvez ensuite le secouer pour faire tomber ce qui nous intéresse!
